I wish to apply for the position of lecturer/advisro in the ELCC program beginning at Ryutsu Keizai University. As a sixth year member of the ELI I have grown to understand the aspects of what the ELI is able to offer through the ELCC program.
Ryutsu Keizai University’s (RKU) long-standing growth and dedication to the betterment of social welfare through Economic and Sports Science is very encouraging. When reviewing the job announcement I was very pleased to see that there is ample amount of time for learning advising as well as lecturing. Through my six years at Kanda I have learned a great deal of how to facilitate learner autonomy through my teaching practices and research. I also feel that my background in human development and recreation makes for a good fit with the academic focus of RKU. Recently I completed a project based on sports psychology and internal perceptions towards language assimilation. I also designed a course title Cross-cultural Recreation and Human development, which further shows my interest in RKU’s educational fields.
As a teacher at Kanda I designed seven unique courses and have also taught all the core courses that the International Communication department offers at Kanda (please see website below for further details). In both my current time with the ELI and past teaching and management positions I have enjoyed problem solving and working as a team to strengthen the community. In the ELI I have coordinated the Media, and IC project groups, contributed to the CALL group, and led the Professional development committee. These roles have allowed me to design curriculum, lead orientations, redesign digital platforms and servers, actively support lecturers, organize peer workshops and improve the PD website and resources. Also, before joining the ELI I was Head Teacher at Kaplan Colleges in New York. In this role I acted as administration for the staff and student body. Outside these practical roles I have administered, presented and published on research both domestically and abroad in the following fields; CALL, Multimodality, Social Neuroscience, Media, Learner Autonomy, and Linguistics.
Prior to my work in universities I was an assistant Language teacher at Makuhrai Sohgoh High School and have also taught in elementary schools as well as deaf education. These teaching experiences have allowed me to enhance my flexibility to new school settings. I enjoy the challenge of creating positive circumstances for students and my colleagues to work in.
Due to my background in web design and writing the Tech Talk column for IATEFL I would also be able to contribute to technological solutions and set a very stable foundation for the new program at RKU. I feel that between these practical skills and my management experience, research and teaching experiences I have the right background and appreciation of the position.
